Essential oils are natural oils typically obtained by distillation from the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plants and having the characteristic odor of the plant or other source from which it was extracted. Essential oils occur naturally in many food items such as fruits, nuts, vegetables, spices and herbs.
The oils protect plants against predators and disease and also serves as fragrance to people. However, essential oils have been used for centuries in many cultures for medicinal and therapeutic benefits. There is however a renewed interest in its revival and new discovery of its health applications.
Essential oils are highly concentrated so should be used with caution. Most times would require a carrier oil like coconut, grape seed oil or almond oil but some can be used undiluted but in small drops.
The benefits of essential oil can be gotten through inhalation and applying directly on the skin but some other beneficial methods of use include into bath water, drops on materials and so on.
Essential oils can be used solely but there are some that can be combined giving a synergistic effect.......
